# DarkSearch.xyz

> Full-text search over web pages published on IPFS. Results give the CID, title, a short excerpt and a public gateway URL to fetch the content from.

The index is badbits-filtered and takedowns are honored. Searches for child sexual abuse material return no results.

- [Search](https://www.darksearch.xyz/api.php?q=wikipedia&limit=10): `GET /api.php?q=<words>&limit=<1-10>` returns `{"total": N, "results": [{"cid", "title", "excerpt", "url"}]}`. A filtered search returns no results and a `warning`.
- [Status](https://www.darksearch.xyz/api.php?status): `GET /api.php?status` returns the index size (pages, keywords, queue) and indexer version.
- MCP server: `https://www.darksearch.xyz/mcp` (streamable HTTP, no key) with one tool, `search_ipfs(query, limit)`, which returns the same JSON as the search API and has the same limits. Add it as a remote/HTTP MCP server, e.g. `claude mcp add --transport http darksearch https://www.darksearch.xyz/mcp`.

Errors are JSON `{"error": "…"}`: 400 without `q`, 429 when rate limited, 502/503 when the indexer is unreadable or offline.

## Limits

Free, no key: 10 results per call, 10 requests per minute per IP (burst 5). Past that you get 429 with `Retry-After: 60`.
